Course Outline
Join us for an in-depth study of Intermediate Classical Tibetan with Dr. Tenzin Ghegay, a native Tibetan Instructor. This course is designed to build upon students’ existing knowledge of classical Tibetan grammar. It will delve deeper into grammatical structures, syntax, and the intricacies of classical Tibetan texts. Students will also practice their reading and comprehension skills. This course includes twelve live weekly Zoom classes of 1.5 h each, comprehensive course materials, and access to office hours with the instructor.
Course Topics:
Students will delve into the following advanced topics:
- Ladon Particles: Understanding the different forms and functions of these complex particles, which mark three of the eight cases in traditional presentations.
- Agentive Particles: Learning how to mark the agent of a transitive verb, indicate the subject of perception verbs, and imply intentionality in actions.
- Source Particles: Identifying the source, origin, or starting point of actions or objects.
- Relative Clauses: Using clauses to qualify nouns, similar to adjectives.
- Advanced Sentence Structures: Building on the foundational structures covered in Beginning Classical Tibetan, with new complements such as location, instrument, purpose, reason, indirect objects, and adverbs.
Session Structure:
- Hour 1: New grammar structures
- Half Hour: Reading classical texts
Prerequisites
This course is open to all with knowledge of foundational classical Tibetan grammar concepts. Those who completed SINI’s ‘Introduction to Classical Tibetan’ and ‘Beginning Classical Tibetan’ courses are especially encouraged to join.
