EDP Director Eden Merritt was invited to present her fascinating research at the prestigious TESOL International Conference in Tampa, Florida from March 20th-23rd. TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) is the world’s largest professional organization for teachers of English as a second or foreign language.
Eden’s session, “Developing an ESP Program for Buddhist Monastics”, focused on her work in curriculum design and materials creation for the EDP program. This presentation was a powerful way to strengthen the EDP program’s ties to the world of TESOL and connect SINI’s mission of collaboration into a wider global context.
EDP teacher and Volunteer Coordinator, Catherine Brown was also at TESOL. Catherine was the recipient of the Virtual English Language Educator Partnership Award. Her work through the U.S. Department of State led her to initiate an educator exchange program between pre-service teachers from a community in Mexico and a local school district in Washington state, USA. Catherine notes that her work with SINI highlights for her the richness of our collective human cultural heritage.
